Bloomington Criminal Defense Attorney John G Prior
DUI and Criminal Law Attorney

The Defense Attorney You Can Trust to Handle Your Bloomington Charge

If you have been arrested or charged in the state of Illinois, there are likely many thoughts and emotions flying around in your head. Fear about what kind of punishment you are going to have to face. Worry over what will happen with your job. Concern over how your loved ones will cope. Embarrassment over having your friends, neighbors, and coworkers hear what happened. Shame that they may judge you over this one action.

John Prior, Jr. has seen it all before, and he understands. He has helped countless people to cope with these feelings and move past them so that they can start dealing with the real problem in front of them: fighting their charges.

Because he knows that the state of Illinois takes criminal charges seriously and will not hesitate to hit you with severe consequences. These can include years in prison, high fines, probation, and more. If you want to give yourself the best chance at getting a positive outcome, you have to act fast.

An Illinois Criminal Lawyer Who Understands How Prosecutors Think

Since 2004, The Prior Law Firm, P.C. has been helping people in and around Bloomington, IL, to do just that, fighting for their rights and making sure that they receive a fair trial. However, John Prior’s legal experience stretches back far longer than that – for more than 25 years.

Over that time he has worked on both sides of the aisle. First for the State’s Attorney’s Office, where he served as a brief writer for the Appellate Prosecutor’s office, as an Assistant State’s Attorney in multiple counties, and as the elected State’s Attorney of Henderson County.

Now he has his own defense law firm, where he uses his first-hand knowledge of how prosecutors think to craft winning strategies and help his clients to get their charges reduced, dropped, or dismissed.

When you understand the types of arguments that the other side is going to use, it not only helps to bolster your own argument, but undercut theirs. This is a method that Prior has used time and time again to poke holes in prosecutors’ cases and cast doubt on their evidence and assertions.

This is incredibly important because, in criminal trials, the burden of proof is on the other side. While prosecutors must prove your guilt, you don’t need to prove your innocence. All you need to do is put doubts into the minds of the jury members or judge. That is what “innocent until proven guilty” means. It may not always feel like it, but under our legal system, you are given the benefit of the doubt.

A Track Record on Bloomington Cases That You Can Trust

Due to the positive outcomes he has been able to achieve handling DUIs, felonies, and all kinds of other Illinois criminal charges, Prior has received quite a bit of recognition from a wide variety of legal institutions, including being Lead Counsel rated, having both the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys and the American Institute of DUI/DWI Attorneys name him to their 10 Best in Client Satisfaction list two years in a row (2016 and 2017), and appearing on the National Trial Lawyers list of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers.

Above all, John Prior believes in the right for everyone to receive the strongest possible defense and have their rights protected while going through the criminal justice system. When your life and future are on the line, you want to make sure you have the best possible advocate in your corner.

Mr. Prior not only possesses the knowledge and experience in Illinois criminal law that you need, he will treat your case like the priority that it is. He will give you his full attention and commitment until your situation is resolved to the best of his abilities.

The Bloomington Criminal Law Firm Ready to Fight Your Charges

Many people find themselves paralyzed into inaction after being arrested or charged with an Illinois crime. Sometimes they go into a kind of shock due to the stress and fear of the situation itself. Other times police officers and prosecutors may convince them that there is nothing to be done – the evidence against them is too strong. They are going to pay, so why even try to fight?

This, of course, is exactly how law enforcement officials want you to feel. Because their job is to secure a conviction. If you believe there is no hope and do nothing to fight back, it makes that job a whole lot easier.

Here is what you should do: hire a skilled and experienced criminal attorney as soon as you can. The faster you do, the better your chances at receiving a positive outcome. Why? Because in criminal cases, time matters.

As someone who has been practicing law for more than 25 years, John Prior understands this. He knows that some types of evidence must be collected quickly or you will not be able to use them in your defense. The more time law enforcement officials spend with you before you have an attorney, the more likely you are to say or do something that can harm your case.

That is why, when you decide to work with The Prior Law Firm, P.C., our lawyers are ready to hit the ground running. We will make sure you are not questioned without a representative present; your rights are respected and no corners are cut; any evidence that can potentially help your case is collected and turned over to us; and the prosecution does not get any more of a head start than they already have.

Defense Attorneys with the Skill and Knowledge Necessary to Beat Your Bloomington Charges

Experienced. Educated. Meticulous. Driven. Compassionate.

There is a reason so many people in and around Bloomington turn to The Prior Law Firm, P.C. to handle their criminal matters. Our attorneys understand Illinois criminal law inside and out, and they know who to talk to get things done and help your case.

John Prior. With over 25 years of legal experience, Mr. Prior has handled many types of criminal cases. Even better, he has seen those cases from both sides of the aisle.

Before opening The Prior Law Firm in 2004, Mr. Prior worked for the State’s Attorney’s Office in a variety of capacities over the years. He began as a brief writer for the Appellate Prosecutor’s office, then served as an Assistant State’s Attorney, and finally was the elected State’s Attorney for Henderson County.

Why should this matter to you? Because working in these positions required him to build cases designed to get people convicted. He learned how to be a prosecutor. As a defense attorney, he now uses that very knowledge to anticipate what prosecutors are going to do and plan ahead to poke holes in their stories and cast doubt about his clients’ guilt.

Kerry Bradford. Want to make sure no evidence is missed? That every legal option is explored? Area native Kerry Bradford’s dogged, studious approach to the law is matched only by her passionate desire to help people and protect their rights.

On the one hand, it is how she got placed on the Dean’s List and made honor roll every single semester in law school. It is how she graduated cum laude, received Certificate of Merit awards, and studied abroad at Oxford University in England. On the other, it is why she went to Ecuador with the International Student Volunteers in college, building and maintaining community buildings, teaching kids, and working to restore the environment.

As a criminal lawyer, she is able to marry these two parts of her personality and put them to work battling to ensure every single one of her clients gets the best possible resolution.

With awards and recognition from The National Trial Lawyers, the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys, and the American Institute of DUI/DWI Attorneys, Attorney John Prior is certainly doing something right, and you can see it in the results his firm obtains for his clients.
